About Us
Like all good 21st century love stories, ours began with a date on Tinder. We met in London, and immediately fell for each other at a time in our lives where we figured “what are we waiting for?” As such we ended up getting married very quickly, and it was while on our honeymoon in Essaouira that our lives took a curious turn and tumbled us down a rabbit hole.
One of the things that Aziz particularly, had really enjoyed doing in London was scouting second hand stores in search of treasure. Neither of us had been in the business of vintage, salvage, or restoration, but we were very good at dreaming up scenarios where we had a vintage furnishings side hustle: something to feed our creativity and make a few extra bucks. And Morocco seemed like just the kind of place to turn those dreams into reality.
Of course, when most people come to Morocco they buy a carpet, a beaded head, or some jewelry. But the idea of a second income was gaining steam in my head, in a post-pandemic, menopausal, mid-life crisis sort of way. Combined with a liberal dose of my lifelong motto: “Go Big or Go Home”, a project was inevitable. This perfect storm of hormones, emotions and just a dash of madness manifested in our buying an entire warehouse full of vintage furniture and trinkets – much of it mid-century modern – building a website to sell it all from, and holding on for dear life.
What didn’t end up in our own home, we kept in storage until, several months later, we found a piece of land in the countryside. Here we built a showroom and warehouse for our newly formed, accidental brand Mid Century Maroc. Now it’s a shopping destination for in-the-know interior design lovers in both Morocco and from overseas. Our home is available as a peaceful rental for anyone looking for an elevated taste of life in the Souiri bled (Essaouira countryside). And we’re getting more and more involved in our local community.
